Blogging tip + Book delays ….
Welcome Back To Dean Holland Dot Com... Be Sure To Look Around And Get Involved In The Discussions Going On!
Hey y’all
How you all doin ?? … Great I hope
So I said the other day I had learned something new and I now want to share this with you, this is something you Need to know. First and foremost I owe this knowledge to a regular visitor of mine, that person is Tommy McLaughlin.
I approached Tommy for some help and we spoke on the phone, so Tommy.. Thankyou brother !!
Ok, so what did I learn ??
Well have you noticed with more experienced internet marketers that rather than them display an affiliate link to a product they display something like – www.DeanHolland.com/uses/hostgator ?? ( Link for Hostgator hosting )
This is known as a redirect link and what this does is not only give your link more of your branding but also prevents any ‘spys’ from swooping in and stealing your affiliate commissions !! As you will agree it is very important
I dont really want to make my posts too techie so what I am going to do is build a ‘How to’ page here on my blog so check there for the step by step details of how to set up these masked redirect links
====
Now… It pains me to say that there is a slight delay in the release of my step by step guide of how to build a blog
As you know this is my first product and although the book is completely finished ( Finally ) I have some slight technical issues that are probably very simple to resolve but I just dont have a clue. The main one being that when I have had the book converted to a pdf document the links are not clickable ?!
So I am awaiting help with this and as soon as it is sorted it will be up here for you all… Real sorry to those that are patiently waiting, it’s driving me crazy !!
Oh well, stay positive
It will be fixed ( Just wish it was Now ! ) lol
Stay tuned
Dean

Hi Dean-
Your front cover look great!! Can I ask, did you design it yourself or did you outsource?
I can vouch for what a brilliant person Tommy McLaughlin is. He has helped me a few times, last of all with putting a web form on my sidebar- if I can do it anyone can!!
Theres a link to his blog over at our blog. He has been so good to us I put him on our blogroll as an honorary student!
Can’t wait to see your book Dean, if the covers got anything to go by then its going to be great!!
WELL DONE

Blimeys, *blushing* such kind words ….
@ Dean- Not a problem, pleasure to have a chat on phone and when you churning in the six figures, don’t forget me
, love the graphic…
@ Becky- Again not a problem, my pleasure …
I know of a link cloaking plugin for wordpress, the redirect php code that I explained to Dean is handy when you are maybe writing an eBook or eCourse etc as you just use the www yourdomain com /whatever/product
Keeps it simple if same over all blogs and products, but as Dean rightly states some more ‘self-branding’
I would advise against using ‘recommends’ as people automatically think affiliate link I like the /uses that Dean came up with nice one
And now I think about it, I am kind of fabulous HA HA HA HA !
Cheers

Hi Dean,
Smart looking ebook cover. Can you do some graphics for me?
What are you using to create your pdf? the easiest solution I have found to create pdfs is openoffice, I have never had any problems creating clickable links.
Martin.
P.s. might be worth going and commenting on my latest blog post

I have used openoffice in the past, it will convert to pdf, the problems I had is it stopped working, could not get it reinstalled.
The Openoffice will save your document as an .odt extension, that is only readable with open office.
I stopped using it as some of the documents I had were eBook I had written etc.
Just my 2 cents worth
Cheers

Dean,
VERY eyeball pleasing cover. I really like it.
Folks, my latest thread is all about praising all sorts of helpful people. You can go and rave over anyone you want OR tell the PEEPS what your own particular specialty is.

Tommy – “when 900 you reach, look as good you will not”! Got to love Yoda. I also like the bit where Luke says “I don’t believe it” and Yoda says “…and that is why you fail”. Important lessons for us all from Yoda!
Going for a rummage on your website now to see what hints & tips I can pick up – Dean’s been very helpful to me so if you’ve been helping him then I’m going to see what else I can find out!
My site will be up & running this weekend (fingers crossed) so I’ll be inviting everyone to come and leave comments (and probably requesting help at the same time!).
Dean – re the PDF internet link issue – does it depends which version of Adobe you’re using? I had a feeling that more recent versions do keep the links intact, but I may be wrong!
I’m trying out a bit of HTML here, so if it looks pants then I apologise in advance!
Thanks,
Nikki

Nix,
“Whether you think you can or whether you think you cannot, either way you are right!”
I think Henry Ford said that but I may be wrong. Any of you PEEPS know?

Hey Dean–
Congrats on your new ebook. I just launched my new ebook too at http://onlinecashflowguru.com/blog/30-websites-in-30-days/.
(I’d love everyone’s feedback on my ebook and videos on my blog!)
What I did–I was having a tough time creating the hyperlinks in my ebook pdf, and I didn’t want to spend a bunch of money for some other software, so I used a free program called “ewriter pro” to create my hyperlinks in my pdf. They turned out great–you can check it out.
I’ve also got a video over on my blog showing how to set up those redirect affiliate links to help people out too. http://onlinecashflowguru.com/blog/setting-up-redirect-affiliate-links/
Let me know if I can do anything else to help–can’t wait to see your ebook.

Talking of quotes, I’ve just had this one come through in my email:
“My father taught me that reputation, not money, was the most important thing in the world.”
William Rosenberg, Dunkin Donuts founder
Thought it was a relevant one to share here!
Thanks,
Nikki

Hello Dean,
It’s classmate Lesley here.
Love the graphics on the ebook! Fabulous.
I for one, will be first in line for your words of wisdom. Having a slow start here as my outsouring source seemingly disappeared into the night.
Fascinated with all the working of putting a blog site together, however, to date, I have been a bit less than spectacular at it. Outsourcing is the way to go. Working with the right people is the key.
Looking forward to the third mentoring call tonight, and our journey together in this amazing group with Alex and Company.
Kindest regards,
Lesley Morgan

Hi Dean,
The book cover looks fantastic mate, who did you use?
I did a post on how to cloak your affiliate links with full instructions, you can see it here:
http://missioninternetmarketing.com/blog/how-to-cloak-your-affiliate-links/
Just put up another video (no stopping me now
) about a great plugin that adds an aweber optin box to your posts. I have had a few more subscribers since using it, so it is worth taking a look.
See you on the webinar!
Cheers

Hi Dean, I did a couple of posts on my blog in the past that might help you and others with creating a PDF with clickable text links and redirects:
1. PDF with clickable links
http://paula-brett.com/blog/how-to-create-a-secure-pdf-doc-with-cloaked-clickable-links/
2. Redirect pages

Hope it’s useful

Having visited your blog a few times Dean, I thought after reading this post it would be poerfest to show you the exact way that I do things!…
There is a big BUT however!
2 others have also shows you what they do, there again though they both do things differently to how I do things! So if you have time, do take a look at my post, and let me know what you think of that option.
== >> Looking To Clean Up Your Links, A Smart Move!
It proved very popular with my readers, and I’d hope it would be the same with yours! (Plus one of my best!)
Thanks

Dean,
I captured your ebook. Nice book however please remember that I was educated in the public schools of Texas so I may be a little slow.
In the section about transferring all of your information from your free blog to your own blog.
I can’t seem to get from step 2 to step 3. The reason being I can’t find the ‘Manage’ tab while on the dashboard page. Please help

Hello Dean,
Many thanks for the ebook, you have certainly done a good job on this one. It will save me a lot of time.
I really like the way you have set it out step by step and made it easy to follow.
Thanks to your book I will have my blog sorted by Thursday before our next coaching session with Alex.
I am sure you will make lots of money on the internet.
Keep up the good work
