Do You Want To Make Money Online?

By Dean On November 5, 2010 Under Affiliate Marketing, Make Money Online, Mindset, Self Development

Welcome Back To Dean Holland Dot Com... Be Sure To Look Around And Get Involved In The Discussions Going On!

It’s a crying shame, it really is. However before I continue I need to tell you right now, I myself was a severe victim of what I’m about to discuss with you.

I want you to also prepare yourself, I say this for your own good – You may have to make a SERIOUS change in yourself after reading this blog post if you REALLY want to make money online and more importantly build a solid lifelong business.

There’s a very big reason I managed to blow around $60,000 on credit cards and bank loans and get myself in financial ruin with near bankruptcy prior to succeeding online.

You see for some time I researched and saw those big bold claims of people making life changing sums of cash in a very short period of time.

You’ve seen those sales pages right?

They promise the earth yet once you’ve invested your hard earned cash you’re left nowhere but confused with zero results to show for it. It was believing I could buy a product and achieve huge success in just weeks that got me in serious debt.

The problem is, they’re so damn convincing don’t you think? Heck even now I buy these things because I’m truly intrigued as to what they actually reveal.

But you see there’s another issue, sales pages that reveal very little about what the product / system actually is. Sure from a marketers point of view it’s very effective, but in my personal opinion for all the wrong reasons.

So what’s the point here?

I’m going to put this as simple as I can, you may find this to be a little blunt…

You need to realise you’re being sold a dream and in fact you’re buying right into it!

These highly effective sales pages that offer rapid success don’t actually mean that, it takes

    WORK

(And lots of it)

In my own personal opinion and in fact that of many others, I achieved rapid online success. It wasn’t over night though, or even a few weeks. However to go from being close to bankrupt to then quitting my job and making multiple hundreds of thousands of dollars online in around 2 years to me is insane.

My entire life has changed; the life of my family members around me has changed. It just took real work and commitment, of course I had to be shown what to do but the fact is I put in the effort and I did it.

So here’s the point, if you REALLY want to make money online, and I mean REALLY want to do it then believe me when I say you can do it!

There’s a process, you need to learn marketing and how to do it. Once you learn these basics slowly and surely over time as you continue to take action and put in the work you will develop newer and broader skills.

Skills and knowledge that open up new avenues, paths that lead to bigger and better success.

Make that decision RIGHT NOW today, do you want to continue to throw cash at ‘the dream’ or do you want to put in some effort for a few months to change your entire life?

Make a choice, and make it for all the right reasons. Have a real good think, why do you want this? Are you willing to put in the effort to learn and implement?

I sure hope so, the lifestyle your own internet business can bring you is just incredible. You just need to do it the right way, with the right guidance.

When you leave your comment below, let me know your decision. I look forward to reading it :)

Thanks again to everyone that continues to click that little Facebook ‘LIKE’ button on my posts, ( You know who you are! ) I really appreciate you sharing my content so I can help more people with my experiences.

To your success

Dean

P.S – To those that have spotted and mentioned the few minor errors here on my blog ( Twitter link + Banners ) – Thank you, I am working to fix these currently.

I’ve been buying many internet marketing products and did by right into it. I usually buy into it after I know there is a refund. I’ve bought into many hype and became frustrated because I would spend on advertising and other marketing expense that I thought would bring me the result that I wanted. After racking up debts and bad credit score because I can’t pay them back and no income, I decided to just start building my list. So far no result and still in debt. Whats keeping me to keep on keeping on is the dream of financial freedom and a peace of mind. Thanks for this post!

So, So many newbie marketers get hooked into this trap. It is something that most if not all marketers go through at some point in there careers.

Some products will be good and others just dam right scandalous. It depends if the the reader is willing to take action. If they think it is going to take a bit of work they will move onto the next thing and then the next. Don’t’ fall into this major problem!!!!

You need to take action on the knowledge you soak up. If it is good knowledge then you will succeed, but not if you don’t take action.

    Learn-Plan-Action.

Always keep learning as there is a lot to learn with Internet Marketing.

    Cheers

    Hey Dean,

Continue to throw cash at “the dream”? I think not! I’d much rather have “the dream” working FOR me! BTW, what’s this “effort” you speak of? I’ve read that I can make $100,000 in 10 minutes with 10 clicks of the mouse. Well, I’m exaggerating of course. It only works that quick IF I purchase the $99 upsell, right?

I’m guessing you’re going somewhere with this, Dean? Talk to us, brother!

All kidding aside, inspirational post. I’m glad you’ve done well for yourself.

    Respectfully,

    Fred S.

    Great Post Deano!

i spent around $50k buying everything and anything, lol

although most of the stuff never worked for me – i didn’t take massive action implementing it, i would not have got to where i am today if i had not gone thru the painful learning curve…

i;d say to anyone get yourself a program, a mentor and work your ass off for 16 hours a day studying, implementing and soaking yourself into this marketing world.

    …cos once you’re INSIDE – it’s the world’s GREATEST thing. hahaha

The challenge is the people model what they think they see.. and don’t always understand what goes on beneath the surface.

As you also know Dean, what appears online, the comments, support, isn’t always as coatia as it should be.

There is a move towards more Ethical Web Marketing.. and in fact.. we might have a conversation about that .. sooner rather than later.. also as more people are waking up.. the news is spreading.. unfortunately there is always a new group of people keen for get rich quick..

Thankfully .. people with integrity.. last out.. and the others come and go..

It’s also a question as to what success really is.. and if people are still buying into .. when I have £ms.. I’ll be happy .. there missing out on what really counts..

We’re committed to working with serious online entrepreneurs, and through mastermind groups, best practice and walking the talk making a real difference..

Keep being a stand for what is real and works..
and in time.. hopefully the others will learn or fade away..

Thanks for the great comments guys!

@Yoichi… You’re on to a winner there building your list! Keep doing it!! Here’s some advice, don’t get caught up PURELY focusing on list size. Of course always work to build your list but remember to build the relationship withyour subscribers from the moment they join your list. Don’t give it bro, it’s takes time and real effort but you will do it!

@Craig… Very true man, great words – Good to hear from you too, hope all is well :) Think that’s where many fail is to just keep going taking real action, like I’ve said though a lot of the sales pages basically tell people that is the case so who’s to blame?? Both I’d say :)

@Fred… Nice to meet you Fred, I’m not leading anywhere specific here – There’s no product launching from this :) I’ve observed over recent months some things happening and some attitudes towards internet marketing that really are not going to see people succeed. I see it as my job to at least TRY and educate my subscribers and followers to the TRUTH AND FACTS behind actually succeeding online.

@Shaqs… Thanks man, appreciate the comment :) Yep I know you’ve spent a fair whack like me huh… I think you’re totally right though, all the events of the past will have played some role in where you are today. All those things we didn’t take action on we still know that knowledge now so it was wasted then but maybe it’s help now :)

@Simon… Good to hear from you mate!! I fully agree with you on that, things arn’t always as they seem. There are some ‘not so good’ trends going around but I genuinely believe at this very moment in time the market is not necessarily ready to be told the all out facts about building a real online business.

People try and position their products in a real non-hyped up way and sadly people just don’t buy them, even the product can be GREAT and really get results but if it’s not being sold as a ‘promise the earth’ push the button for success type of product people arn’t interested.

What does it tell us? Well I’ll let you guys decide, for me I believe that sadly products need to be hyped up to be sold… However where many then fail is not delivering what the customer NEEDS in the product itself.

    Thanks again – Speak soon

    Hey Dean,

I just want to congratulate you for something that needed to be said.

I also bought into ‘the dream’ which led to debt and near bankruptcy.

There is so much hype in this industry that it has even made me take a long, hard look at myself and my business.

I’ve even comtemplated giving IM up because of it.

But then I realised that actually we have a duty to educate people the right way and to help them build REAL businesses.

Great stuff Dean… keep it coming :)

    Hi Dean,

Finally a successful internet marketers who tell’s you straight!

I was involved in MLM for many years. Offline to begin with then online for the last 4 years. I even worked directly with a so called successful MLM mentor who had the flash cars (turned out in the end he was broke too…lol). There was some money to be made but I did feel deceitful with the spoon fed information I used to gain team members and pass to my down line. Also done many internet programs and cash gifting in the past again it all made me feel uncomfortable with the way you have to treat and dupe prospects. Plus like lot’s of other it left a mound of bad debt.

Anyhow this year I decided I would look seriously at IM. I have been following you since and continue to learn each time I checkout your blog. As you say it’s a lot of hard work and won’t happen overnight. But’s it’s there for anyone to achieve if they stay focussed and dedicated.

Keep up the great work Dean!

    Regards

    Hey Dean,

Great post and you have it spot on.

It’s comforting to know it took you 2 years of solid 16-hour days and a dice with bankruptcy to become the “overnight” success we have all got to know… ;-)

Those “huge claims” sales letters do make me laugh. I don’t doubt the marketer (or the close contact whose account they have “borrowed”) has made that money… it’s just they haven’t done it via the cheap, push button method they are selling – classic “bait and switch”.

I’ve made a full time living online for almost five years but I wouldn’t consider myself particularly successful and I am certainly not a famous “celebrity” marketer… but I will try and educate anybody who will listen to me that success does not happen without a lot of hard graft.

    Keep spreading the word…

    Hi Dean,
    A very relevant discussion.
The main issue to me is that I have yet to come across an internet training program that is adequately backed up. What I mean by that is that the tutors are not involved enough with their pupils to properly teach the person.
Every “guru” promises that he will “take you by the hand” in this “step by step” program, but once you are inside all you get is a lengthy discussion with lots of information that is almost impossible to apply!
If you do get to try some of this “proven methods” you quickly find out that the results are not as predictable as our teacher believed. The frustrating part then is that it is almost impossible to get the author to engage with you as to why his methods are not so successful in your case.
Instead of working with his pupil to get to a place where the pupil can do what the teacher can do, you end up being confronted with a new sales pitch of yet another program that would get you the desired results.
Is there a real teacher out there somewhere????

    Hi Dean

Yes great post. I have also fallen foul of the so called “Gurus” however not gone in debt over it so I am thankful about that

I am so pleased that you say that anyone can do this if you learn the skills and put into action what you learn over the coming months. Thats exactly what I want and am doing right now and I hope in a few months to see the fruits of my labour

Veyr re-assuring and thank you very much

Your spot on about these sales pages. I have lost count of the number of convincing sales pages that promise you the earth, tell you what you dont need to do but fail to tell you what the product is in order to create the intrigue and get people to click the buy button.

I myself even now as well find myself nearly buying then slapping myself in the head and doing some digging.

At the end of the day the only people that will suceed in this game are the major ACTION TAKERS like yourself.

Two years sounds about right when I look at where my business is at now. I have spent a fortune on those great sales pages aswell but when I spent about $1000 on Alex’s training it was money well spent. It give me the direction where to take my business.

Great post and the blog looks excellent. A professional theme for my blog is another thing for the TO DO list.

I think we have all be suckered into the idea of something for nothing, we are bombarded with those kinds of offers on a daily basis

The worry is that the people commenting on here are the converted, we all now know that the only place that money comes before work is in a dictionary

I feel it is encouraging that there are an increasing number of people wanting a more ethical standard of business online

So keep up the good work Dean and thanks for sharing Tony

Dean, I have read through almost your whole blog at this point – lol! I am a brand new Alex Jeffries student on FTM. I have been “online” for two years now trying to make some extra cash, but very little has trickled in. However, from being “out there” and connecting with others true all those “sales pages,” I have learned that for every 1000 “get-rich-quick”, thereis about 1 or 2 slow and steady. One of them was writing articles and that is what I have done… REALLY slow an steady Anyhow, I am taking the big leap with Alex (and his other wise students) and see where this train will lead, as scary as it is!!

    Dean,

For starters, I have indeed made my decision to be successful online. I am going to build a sustainable and scalable business by using the power of the internet and the guidance of a select few. I say select few because like all of those damn sales pages that utterly make you buy, just to find out the product is crap, it’s hard to find honest people that want to teach the right ways to do things online.

And just like the lady above this post, I too joined Alex Jeffrey’s coaching program. I have to say thank you Dean, because you brought Alex to my attention. I am going to implement and take the necessary time to learn from the ground up.

I have been online for many years now but my time was mostly spent in the network marketing arena, from medium to high ticket companies. Although I was able to make some money there, I wasn’t taught the basics of building a BUSINESS online. I was basically taught how to make a buck and when people stopped spending money on the products those companies offered, I was in a spot of bother.

Fast forward to today, I am excited about learning and implementing as quickly as I can (without getting information overload of course).

Dean, your story is truly inspirational and I look forward to your FTM mastermind bonus.

Thank you, Dean – as always! The problem with dreams is that they are supposed to happen as though life were a film script and a great many con-artists feed upon that. It takes work to make your dreams come true…. not two clicks of a mouse and you’re a millionaire! I bet you put in more hours and worked harder FOR YOURSELF AND YOUR DREAMS than you had ever worked before in your life!! Newbies, like me, need someone grounded and honest (and funny!), like you, to make sure we take the right steps, at the right speed to fulfill our dreams. Maybe I won’t make half a million dollars in two years, but I intend to have fun trying………

    FANTASTIC!!!!

Loving reading all your comments, thankyou!

More importantly than that it’s GREAT to see how you have made that commitment here to put the WORK in to make it happen for yourself.

Like I’ve said, you do need guidance from someone. That person needs to be someone you know, like and trust. Someone who you know has done what you want to do and can lead you down the same path.

When you find that person, and you know you can work with them you seize the opportunity and work your damn ass off!!!!

Then and only then will you reap the rewards and finally build a real online business that can change your entire life.

As always I will continue to help as much as I can and guide you here at Dean Holland Dot Com, but it is you that has to do something with it ;)

    Time to do this right?!

Thanks for the post, Dean. Yes, it takes lots of hard work, that’s for sure. But, as Brian Tracey suggests, you have to go out and see how many times you can fail, before you succeed. Just keep working at it, and learning how to market in an honest and ethical manner.

    Hi Dean

Thanks for a great post. I too fell into the buying into the dream scenario, spent a lot of money I didn’t have – had just come out of bankruptcy so knew when to stop!
I was desperate to make money and quickly but of course I now realize this isn’t going to happen. The best thing I did was join Alex Jeffreys MWA2 – I can’t say that I have made a great success so far but I think that’s down to me just not ‘getting’ some of the concepts. I have now joined his FTM and hope that it starts to become a lot clearer. I am not afraid of hard work but I do lack focus. I also believe that part of being successful is believing in yourself – because there will be a lot of people who will knock you when you start. This, I know has been one of my failings, but I am not a quitter and I will get there. Thanks for all your information you are willing to share with those still struggling to build their business.

    Greetings to Everyone:

Dean, thank you very much for saying what needed to be said. I am more fortunate than most because I have my own finance business, making a pretty good income and looking to transition into Internet Marketing because, as John Dillinger once told a newspaper reporter when asked “Why do you rob banks?” he replied “because that’s where the money is”. In the last two years Internet Marketing has produced more millionaires than any other profession except for real estate. I have only been actively pursuing this since August 10, 2010 (10-12 hours per day, six days a week) and I am finally getting a handle on this.

When I get up and running and start producing a good income, I am going to spend the money and purchase as many of these training programs as possible, evaluate them and then publish my findings on the Internet. By doing that, I hope to be doing the world a favor and getting rid of these internet thieves.

My advice to everyone trying to build an internet marketing business; take massive action each day, stay focus and don’t confuse staying busy with taking action. Good luck to everyone

    Best Regards,
    Stan “The Finance Man”

    Hi,

Thanks for this post. As I literally don’t have the money to buy these get rich training courses, sometimes I feel frustrated as if I’m missing out! I have read so much free stuff and study the post on Warrior furum for hours.

Had my site set up for a bit…nothing! Need to make money this month as more money going out than coming in!

So I’ve formulated an article marketing plan for my site and I’m willing to put the hours in!

But still the get rich emails arrive and the sales letters are so convincing, I know if I had the money I would have gone for them (maybe not all!).

    It can be really dispiriting…

    Thanks for your advicde.

Hi Dean: I guess the gurus picture us at the bottom of the food chain as–gullible suckers seeking answers to what seems to be an insurmountable problem–achieving even minimal success at affiliate marketing. Like too many others I have dumped my few resources into crap that I don’t understand or can’t afford to implement right now.

Yes I suppose it is good technique to tell us what a product “Is NOT about.” And so few tell us what it is really all about. If we want to know–we have to by it.

For me personally I will not waste another dime on the meaningless garbage I’ve been getting. Eventually enough of us will do the same and the crap peddlers will get the message.

This is my “rant” for the day.

Yes I’m still battling on and I realize that you have to be wary of this Dream selling business.

I agree with what you are saying and obviously you are leading upto something.

Your words “There’s a process, you need to learn marketing and how to do it. Once you learn these basics slowly and surely over time as you continue to take action and put in the work you will develop newer and broader skills.”

    This has got me intrigued….
And I’m going to wait to see what it is.

    Dean,

I’m with you there on the “shiny object syndrome.” I bought into the “dream” that was front and center in the sales pages of all the so called internet marketing experts out there. After two years of buying, I started to realize the dream is all fake. All the information I needed to know was right under my nose all this time.

I began to study what the IM experts were doing and started my marketing campaigns with similar methods, only I was being more “real” with my sales message. I didn’t promise the mansions and the multimillion dollar sports cars, rather, I promised that the customer would learn and use something that works in the real world if applied with a lot of “elbow grease.”

I proved to myself that I can make real money and do the things necessary for success online.

    Thanks for your great post.

    Regards,

    Bruce

Great post Dean and one which strikes home with so many people in the IM game regarding hype and over promising new comers.

When people are new to IM they are sold a dream, these product creators know exactly which buttons to press and people come flocking in throwing cash at these get rich quick schemes.

One thing I must say though, not all these programmes and products are scams, quite the opposite. Alot of these products will hold the key to success but implementation is needed and this is not always happening or pushed enough by the creator, hence the high fail rate in this business.

My advice would be to grab free reports and build your own programme, I found this kicked started me and left me feeling I had something to prove, to MYSELF.

Once you have this information and have the fundamentals of IM ground in, a mentor will be a massive help to guide you, not hold your hand.

Although I feel mentors greatly increase your chance of success, setting yourself a goal on a track you have laid is a real push for success.

You are so right you buy, you loose your money and then you buy again just searching for the right product. You are always hoping that this is the one. What keeps me going is the will to success, if they can do it why can’t I. Something is missing and you always think you will find it and someday I will. I want to leave a business for my son that is my hearts desire and I know that somehow I will reach my dream.

Thanks for the refreshing bit of truth! I share your opinion that good things can happen with internet marketing but that they usually involve more than most of the gurus let on to in their marketing materials. I am inclinded to follow someone like you that starts with the whole truth! Thank you!

Dean, all I can say is, keep up the good work and yes, making a living online has to be everyone’s dream but just isn’t for everyone. Trying to make a living online is out to certain people who don’t like the idea of following the old ways and for my goal, I like to get paid to write blogs online. I saw wordpress.com but not too sure of how it actually works…think you can help me with that one, please? Thanks! :)

I my experience, IM is a business like any other. You invest in it with more or less at stake – then see what returns you get.

The IM business has its drudges and drones, but also its high-fliers and shonky salesmen – in that it is like real estate investments, stock broking, etc …

    So manage your investments carefully!

Great post! Well I am guilty as charged. I too like the shiny objection syndrome. Sometimes with me it is just curiosity killed the cat. I know good and well there is not going to be anything different in the new product, however I just have to check for myself. Although, I have not done this to the point of financial ruin.

I really think the business model for affiliate marketing is pretty much the same. It is a long hard learning curve. It takes total dedication and hard work. There is not a quick fix. There is not silver bullet. And I have yet to see the day I could sit on the beach, drink wine coolers, work from my lap top and make $10,000 for the day. So if you guys know a mentor that can teach me that, I want the hook up.

Everyone speaks to the numbers game that 97% fail? Well why is the figure so high? I don’t think everyone that wants to start a business is lazy. I do think 97% of the newbies are not trained properly, become frustrated and quit before they get over the hump. So I ask you, as a business person, what does this say about our industry? Not anything good, most gurus are willing to take the money and leave most of the steps out of the product. If you made 100,000 dollars in a week, why would share the secret for $47.00?

So Dean are you up to the challenge to change that situation for all of us that are willing to learn? I’m sure all of us would love for you to be our mentor and have a training program that we could excel within and change that 97% figure. Wouldn’t it make great testimonials to say 97% of my students had a success rate of xyz in their first six months? And it was true! Would love to see you do that by the way. Can’t wait to read your reply.

    Thanks for caring.

    Peggy

Hey Dean! Sounds just like our talk the other day. Just what I have battled along with thousands of others out there who are trying to build their dreams and having them broken by marketers that only want our money and not truely want to help us advance in life.

I want to be one that helps and listening to the likes of you and other select marketers lets me know that there are some good people out there trying to make a difference.

    Thanks bro!

    Talk soon!

I liked you blogpost, as usual and I am fevourishly working on my business, to get to going and paying for a change. I have my first product done and almost ready to go. But I don’t by anything. Can’t afford it, so no thousands of creditcard debt for me, thank God. I try hard with the free products I have, and maybe with a little more hard work, I’ll get there too.
Thanks Dean for you blo posts.

Hi Dean, I agree with your post. But, there always seems one or two little items that is missed or Because the coach is so use to doing what he does that he just fails to instruct the Newbie and causes dissatisfaction. Like not answering a help me question when emailed to the support/help desk? But, you are most assuredly correct in this is a business and takes many long frustrating hours to even get a website online. Oh, and I am still trying to get that problem completed. thanks for the post.

    I relate to this blog.
A piece of advice no one recognises..

    1) You only have 60 days to dispute a charge on your credit card.
    2) NEVER hire someone to advertise for you… You’ll lose!
    3) Never sign an invoice that has vague descriptions on what you purchased. Vague gives those who took your money poetic license to do nothing, or a poor job.
    4) Even if you’re GUARANTEED your money back.. You won’t get it. Everyone knows that if you win in court… it’s not the government’s job to go after your money.. It’s your job! Who can go to Phoenix (the Nigeria of the U.S.) and go to whomever took your money and get it?
    5) Forget the FBI, FTC, the consumer protection agency, or any other government consumer protection agencies… they won’t/can’t do their job. You’re too small for them to put you on any priority list.

Dean is right… It will take you hard work and a LOT of learning to be able to DO IT YOURSELF! … which you must!

Almost bankrupt (because my trust in these slicksters) and now doing what Dean says.

Looking towards a LONG ROAD to recovery now.

    Hi Dean,

You are absolutely true. WORK is the only way and those who show dream world are also just a part of debts later. I completely agree this.

I just keep reading your blog articles and learn a lot from your blog. I really appreciate that you give time to people on internet by writing such informative articles. I am also in touch with some other interesting IM Experts and in last few months I have had a great friendly and business relationship with them. I would like to develop a similar friendly and business relationship with you. Some of the IM Experts I am in touch with are Paul Dunay, Jonathan Budd, Lee Gilbert, Katie Freiling and Armand Morin.

Who knows; who, when, how and where can be helpful to each other in near future. Isn’t it?

    Hope for your co-operative reply,

    Sincerely

    Danny Quigley

    Hi Dean,

Your story is a great one and I am pleased you have seen success.

I myself have been sucked in by sales pages in the past, some are just so convincing, still those days are over, I am taking a leaf out of your book.

I got myself a Mentor (I think you know him), Alex Jeffreys. No more sales pages will convince me to leave the path I have now chosen, focus and hard work, then I may see your success.

    Keep up the good work

    Regards

    Rob

    Hello Dean,

With all I’ve learnt I have been very scared of Internet marketing niche
considering the ever increasing competition and hypes after all the money I lost .
I’ve sold lots of physical products since January 2009.I became successful in e-commerce sites.
I’m also very involved in adsense and domain flipping.

But the compelling new Alex Jeffreys’s coaching program FTM convinced me to launch an affilate marketing business again.

I’ve been earning a good income online for over 4 years now. The funny part is I still always fall for them stupid sales letter but the difference is I know that there just trying to sell me a pipe dream. I still like buying some of them though because I usually pick up a couple of good tips from the program.

    Hey Dean,

Can you give us an idea about how you make your money ? Are you in one niche ? how many website do you have ? What % is affiliate marketing and what % is your own products ?

I’m mainly into aff marketing but it would help to know which direction you have to be heading in to get some really big numbers like you have done.

    Rgds, Tony.
