Tweaks,Tips and To Do’s
Welcome Back To Dean Holland Dot Com... Be Sure To Look Around And Get Involved In The Discussions Going On!
Hey peeps !!
After what I hope was a successful blog re-launch I went through all your great comments and advice. It seemed you like the new look but there was one main thing that bugged everyone… Those darn flashing ads in the left column !!
So.. Off they went, never to be seen again !!! I tell you what after you pointed then out I found them eye catching myself ( For all the wrong reasons !! ) So thanks for that, I think after spending SO many hours that morning setting this place up I failed to realise how annoying they were
I have still kept the 2 banners but now have static ones, I have also added a little text with them as suggested by Susan Livingstone ( Thanks Susan !) so hopefully they are good now ? I actually want the aweber one to be a small banner as with the hostgator one but until they provide me with one that doesnt flash that long one is my only option.
Today I also noticed in the admin area that there was an option to click to reply on each of the comments posted to my blog. I thought this was great as I believed it would put my reply below the comment, so off I went replying to all the comments on the below… BUT… I realised after a while that all my replies were just stacking up at the end of your comments one after another ( DOH ) so I have to correct this tomorrow so bear with me your replies are coming.
I believe it was also Susan that has suggested I put up a ‘Resources’ page of the tools and services I use to develop my business, I like that idea and see it will help you so that is something I will do shortly.
Ok, so thats really it with this post, just wanted to keep you up to date with whats been happening. Look out tomorrow as I intend on writing a detailed post to help you all that have asked, this will show how to upgrade your WordPress software to the new 2.7 version easily and ensure you lose no data !!
The day after that I intend to review last month and set new targets…. My main goal right now is to complete and publish my blogroll for the fellow students.
Speak soon, let me know if you have any questions

Hi Dean,
There appears to be a problem with your header. It’s partially covering up the page icons below it.
Need to get that sorted mate! ASAP
Looking forward to the first competition – what’s the prize?

Dave

Hi Dave
Thaks brother, This was pointed out to me the other day. You must use the Firefox browser right ???
I am just getting this resolved with the developer, not sure why it is happening as everything is configured to all browser types
There are many prizes that have been donated by outside sponsers mate so watch out for when I officially release the details !!
Remember you got to be a friend of DeanHolland.com to be entered if you are not already
Thanks for that mate

Hi Dean,
Love the new blog design, i also cannot see the tabs as they are covered by the header.
I think using the flex template the header height size needs to be made smaller..
love the header graphic, i would remove the flex icon in the browser bar and replace it with yours.
Job well done

Maybe you can get rid of the flashing banners from Aweber. I’ve not tried it myself, but what if you save a copy of the banner you want to your computer. Then open it in MS Paint or a similar program. Now it will just be a picture instead of a banner with flash code on it.
Save it however you want it titled. Then upload it to your site as an image you host, and place your affiliate link in it.
Again I’m not sure if that will work, but it’s worth a try to do what you want.

Hi Dean,
As I posted in my comment to your previous thread I have been looking to upgrade my blog too. After seeing this I have also invested in flexx theme, it’s a great tool.
Thought you and everyone else might like to know I have put up a quick video. It explains how you set up your aweber lists to action the triple threat affiliate strategy. It’s very simple actually which makes a nice change, lol!
All the best
Mark

Gary,
I was going to comment on this post and then all of a sudden there is a new post to read. Thanks for that.
I really do like the new digs. I agree with that may people have said about banners and such. Blinking banners can be pretty annoying. (I guess I should go to my site and make sure I don’t have any
).
I also have to say I have had problems with firefox also. Things work a little bit different when I use it. On the website for our Martial Arts School I have a problem with flash I am still trying to figure out.
Thanks again
Thom
BTW.. I put up a new video on my site for the competition. I wanted to try a different format. I decided to try a interview format. If you get a chance please take a look and let me know what you think. You can also see my ugly mug
Thanks again

The reason that your reply to comments was ending up at the end is because you need to enable the Threaded Comments in the setttings. On the menu down the left, go to your Settings tab, and then the Discussion link! – You need to check the ‘Enable Threaded (Nested) Comments’ option, and decide how many levels you’d like.
Simple!
You’re comments will then show up below the comment you are replying too. Some people don’t like that, but I really do, as it keeps verything clean and stops people having to search for the comment reply! HEHE
Thanks
Mark

Hey dean, for the aweber ad, you can open it in mspaint and cut out the part you don’t need, or simply head over to rentacoder.com or scriptlance.com and pay like $5 – $10 to have it editted, should be real
cheap since they are not creating it from scratch.
in fact i already chopped of the dark blue section and created a 125 x 125 pixel ad with mspaint for you if you want it: http://www.meta-blogger.com/images/aweber125x125.gif
but i’d suggest you have someone take the 5 phrases and create a 125 x 125 pixel slideshow for it, so it would look identical just smaller and it would cycle through each of the phases. you can probably find free software that would let you create your own animated gif images as well.
try to keep all to one size though like 125 x 125 for the square buttons
or 468 x 60 for standard banners, so it doesn’t look junky.
i don’t have the problem with the header covering anything, but it does cover half my monitor because it is so tall(200 pixels).
